Oregon ducks coach Dan Lanning punched its ticket as the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff with the 45-37 victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Big Ten Conference championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Before Penn State coach James Franklin was even able to talk to the media about what happened, the band from Oregon was playing in the background and interrupted him.
“I don’t have a problem with them celebrating, but this is kind of a joint venture,” Franklin said after the loss.
Franklin continued to let his out frustrations with the Big Ten referees. The Nittany Lions had five penalties for 65 yards, while Oregon had three penalties for 24 yards.
“I don’t want this to come across the wrong way. I give Oregon a lot of credit, but the penalties were pretty lopsided.”

Near the five-minute mark of the fourth quarter, Penn State quarterback Drew Allar threw an incomplete pass to wide receiver Omari Evans. That drop caused Franklin to question the officials’ decision-making even more.
“There were a few calls that we didn’t get that I thought we should have had… I understand you’re going to miss a few calls… from what I saw on the jumbotron, that was a catch , and In these types of games you can’t miss these types of calls.”
– Penn State coach James Franklin
Penn State is still very fashionable College Football Playoff image. The question is whether the Nittany Lions will host a playoff game at Beaver Stadium or whether they will have to travel to a hostile road environment.
“We’ll know tomorrow if we have a home game in 18 inches of snow or if it’s on the road.”
– Penn State coach James Franklin
The Ducks don’t have to worry about where they’ll play next, as the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on New Year’s Day is believed to be next. Number 1 team in the country. The last time Oregon and Penn State played each other before tonight was 29 years ago in the 1995 Rose Bowl. The Nittany Lions defeated the Ducks 38-20.
“You have to give credit to Oregon and Coach Lanning. They did a really good job. They created some challenging situations for us on offense, defense and special teams. But I’m proud of our guys. We played against the number one team in the country and had a chance to win the game at the end,” Franklin said after the game.
Oregons offence put up 45 points on the board against Penn State, which ranks third in Big Ten Conference title game history. Dillon Gabriel threw for four touchdowns, tied for second most by any quarterback in Big Ten Championship history.
